INFO:
The death of the English café? Norman’s is closing. And it feels like the soul of the industry is going with it. They weren’t just a greasy spoon revival. They inspired me. I wouldn’t have tried Britalian cuisine without them. I failed. But I tried — because they did it first. I know some people saw the collabs and press and rolled their eyes. But to me? They loved British food enough to make it beautiful again. Critics will say they weren’t “authentic.” But authenticity is a myth. It’s love that keeps culture alive. And they made a lot of us fall in love with beans on toast again. What’s scary now is what comes next. If even they can’t survive, what hope is there for the rest of us? We’re not building a food culture. We’re watching it die. One café at a time.
