INFO:
Dissociation and shutdown are part of the freeze response and can happen during and outside of therapy. Movement is almost always helpful to get you out of it and back here. Here are a a few other things you can do for Dissociation: 1. As soon as you notice yourself starting to dissociate: stand up and move. Its the opposite of what your body wants to do and takes us out of dissociation and shut down 2. As soon as you notice dissociation: short and fast exhales, the opposite of what we tell people with panic and anxiety. This is because instead of hyrerarpusal it’s hypoarousal. 3. Shake and move and look around the room and remind yourself where you are and that you’re safe. Remeber dissociation can happen on a spectrum and it can show up ad derealization and depersonalization.
